847 Mt Macedon Rd, Mt Macedon, is named Camelot.
A historic Mt Macedon estate featuring thousands of daffodils, a croquet lawn and lakeside glass studio is set to surpass the town’s record house value with its $7.2m price tag.
Named Camelot, the 2.88ha property at 847 Mt Macedon Rd was established circa-1886 by Consul-General for the Austro-Hungarian empire, Carl Ludwig Pinschof, and his famous opera singer wife Elise Wiedermann.
Mt Macedon’s existing $5.4m residential price benchmark was set by the nearby 769 Mt Macedon Rd in 2011, according to CoreLogic.

Pinschof held his diplomatic position when Melbourne was Australia’s capital city.
In 1900, he became a Herald & Weekly Times director and later Carlton and United Breweries chairman.
When Pinschof and Wiedermann owned Camelot, which was known as Hohe Warte until the about the 1970s, they were prominent arts patrons and influential Australian painters Arthur Streeton, Frederick McCubbin and Tom Roberts were frequent visitors.
After a 1940 fire destroyed the original house, it was rebuilt by new owner Norman Hutchinson whose family supplied steel for the Sydney Harbour Bridge’s construction.

Ray White Romsey’s Zach Douglas says Camelot’s current owners have salvaged and repaired finials (small decorative devices) from the original house, which now sit atop the tennis court’s fencing.
Mr Douglas describes the 2008-built abode as a “magical place” boasting a garden with a basketball half-court; 20,000-plus daffodils and tulips; and gumtrees more than 220-years old.
The late daffodil hybridiser Fred Silcock developed a yellow flower named the Camelot daffodil.

About 120 guests attended the owners’ sons wedding in the spectacular grounds where they were wowed by the 100-million-litre bore-fed lake.
Next to the trout-filled waterway is a conservatory-style glass studio with a fireplace, surrounded by gardens created by famous landscape designer Paul Bangay.
“The lake house is a very special spot,” Mr Douglas says.
He said the owners had renovated the house six years ago and updated it to have a six-star energy rating.
